  • In addition to its membership component, 2X Global is also a field building organisation committed to advancing gender lens investing in the wider field. We are currently working on a detailed activity plan for 2023 with several opportunities for non-member investors, asset holders, and investment intermediaries to engage - in addition to sharing key insights and data generated by 2X members as a public good. • 2X Global is the new name for GenderSmart and the 2X Collaborative, which started operating as a fully merged organisation on 1 January 2023. It is the strategic backbone for all current and future 2X activities, including future iterations of the 2X Challenge, as well as the 2X Criteria, 2X Ignite, 2X Certification, and the GenderSmart investing Summit.

The 2X Challenge first launched at the G7 in 2018 as a two-year, US$3bn DFI commitment to gender lens investing. It surpassed this original goal, raising more than US$11bn. At the G7 Summit 2021, a new collective 2021-2022 target of US$15bn was announced. We are now engaging in a strategy process with current 2X Global members (who span the spectrum of investors and capital providers) to shape the future of the 2X Challenge, envisioning more nuanced targets across different types of asset classes, sectors, regions, and peer groups.

  • If you are a leading investor, intermediary, or asset holder who believes that gender-smart investing is just smart investing and would like to shape the future of the field alongside your peers, you should be a member of 2X Global. Our members come from across the capital spectrum in both public and private, developed and emerging markets. They include leaders from development finance institutions, banking, fund and asset managers, family offices, foundations and philanthropy, corporations, pension funds, financial sector intermediaries, nonprofits engaging in impact investing, public sector actors, entrepreneurs, corporate investment actors, and research firms.

In addition to voice and influence, we provide members with access to peer learning networks, knowledge, co-investment platforms, partnership and training opportunities, and innovative investment tools. The offerings of our structured network are designed to serve investors making their first gender-focused investment, as well as those at the leading edge of the field. Find out more here.

  • Core activities include:

    • Members’ Communities of Practice to advance intersectional investment agendas

    • Educational forums to convene and further engage our global community

    • Shared resources that help level up gender-smart investments

    • Certification and standards that support scale of the field

    • Deal‑sharing platforms and networks to facilitate capital deployment

Some of these are member-only, others are open to the wider field. We have three core pillars that are the foundation of all our programming and activities, to ensure strategic focus and impact. Find out more about these and our current activities here.

  • There are membership categories for investors, investment intermediaries, and other actors in the ecosystem. There is an application process, and membership contributions. If you would like to find out more please contact Marijn Wiersma

  • Yes. We have a community of practice on gender and climate, and the care economy, both of which pay attention to public and private markets. The Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion CoP also includes a public markets lens. Given the dynamic structure of the organisation, we will be able to take an agile approach to form new communities of practice and peer groups, driven by different allocator and field-level needs.

  • Yes, 2X Global is already in both the public and private sectors. This community represents the spectrum of capital allocators, influencers, advisors, and fund managers.

  • Feedback from this community is strongly in favour of continuing with convening in person. However we are not sure when the next Summit will be, or the exact format, yet.

  • 2X Global is committed to supporting the wider ecosystem in partnership with relevant stakeholders. We will continue to work with pioneering partners, to amplify key insights, develop relationships to strengthen these industry linkages, and partner on initiatives that support a broader ecosystem reach and deeper, collective impact.
