The Business Case for 2X Challenge Qualification

Since its launch at the 2018 G7 Summit, the 2X Challenge has become a flagship initiative in the global movement to mobilise capital for women’s economic empowerment. To date, more than 1,000 transactions—representing over US$34 billion invested across 600+ entities—have been formally qualified under the 2X Challenge by participating investors.

As the market for gender lens investing has matured and expectations around 2X qualification have become more rigorous, there is growing interest in understanding the tangible business value of 2X qualification for participating investees. What strategic advantages does it offer investees? What benefits are realised in practice? And how can 2X Challenge investors better support and leverage this designation?

To help answer these questions, 2X Global partnered with social impact advisory firm Kore Global to conduct research on the business case for 2X qualification.

The report outlines the business case for 2X qualification, with a focus on what motivates investees to seek 2X qualification, where they experience most commercial value, and how investors can tailor their strategies and support to enhance the value, uptake, and market resonance of 2X qualification across investee types.
