Today, at the 2X Global Summit in Montréal, Canada leading development and multilateral finance institutions came together to reaffirm their commitment to investing in women’s economic empowerment in a new joint statement.
Underscoring the economic imperative of investing in women amidst a more complex global operating environment, the endorsing institutions reaffirmed their commitment to the 2X Challenge: the collective initiative to mobilise capital for investments that support women’s economic empowerment.
By 2023, the 2X Challenge had mobilised over USD34 billion in investments advancing women’s economic empowerment in the private sector. The current round of the 2X Challenge, which runs from 2024-2027, has a target to mobilise an additional USD20 billion.
For the first time, this round is also open to private sector investors. Three new investors announced their participation this week at the 2X Global Summit: Mirova, Triple Jump and FSD Africa Investments - demonstrating growing private sector momentum and bringing the number of private sector investors to 14. Their participation also reflects one of the development finance priorities set out in the statement: mobilising private capital at scale for women’s economic empowerment.
